The Ramadan cooking problem
Every Muslim family knows the pattern: Ramadan starts with beautiful intentions โ long iftars, multiple dishes, fresh everything. By day 10 you're exhausted. By day 20 someone in the family is eating microwave rice at suhoor because nobody had the energy to prep. tandoco's Ramadan plan is built specifically for this โ curating halal-tagged items from our regular weekly menu into a 30-day iftar schedule that keeps your family nourished without burning the cook out by week two.
What's in the tandoco Ramadan plan
The 30-day Ramadan plan is designed around the physiology of fasting and the nutritional realities of the month, drawing from the halal-tagged section of our regular menu:
- Hydration-forward iftar options โ meals with high water-content vegetables, broth-based stews, and fresh herbs to help you rehydrate after a fasting day
- Protein-forward mains โ 30โ45g halal protein per iftar entree to prevent muscle loss through the month
- Complex carbs for sustained energy โ basmati rice, whole grains, lentils, dates paired with mains so you don't crash at 10pm
- Lower-glycemic suhoor options โ oats, chia pudding, protein bakes, Greek yogurt bowls that hold you through 14+ hours of fasting
- Weekly menu rotation โ no eating the same iftar on day 3 and day 23. Four distinct menus across the month.
- Cultural variety โ Somali, South Asian, Middle Eastern, Mediterranean, American โ reflecting the actual diversity of the Twin Cities Muslim community

Training and fitness through Ramadan
Fasting through Ramadan while trying to maintain (or build) muscle is a specific nutrition challenge. tandoco's Ramadan plan works with our training page for macro-conscious Muslim athletes โ enough protein at iftar to support the day's training, enough complex carbs at suhoor to fuel it, timed properly around the feeding window. If you're a lifter, runner, or fighter going through Ramadan in Minneapolis, the plan was partly designed around you.
