what to eat when ozempic nausea hits.

i'm not a doctor and this isn't medical advice. it's what i've heard from dozens of GLP-1 customers and what works in my own kitchen. if nausea is severe or persistent, talk to whoever prescribed your medication.

what helps (anecdotally, but consistently)

cold or lukewarm food. hot food has more aroma. aroma is the #1 nausea trigger reported. a chilled tandoco entrée eaten cold beats the same meal microwaved. it sounds wrong; it works.

ginger. ginger tea, ginger ale (the real kind with actual ginger root), candied ginger. published nausea relief from a real food. cheap. keep some in the pantry.

simple proteins. grilled chicken, plain salmon, boiled eggs. complex sauces and seasonings trigger more nausea than the protein itself.

broth-based meals. chicken broth with rice, miso, simple soups. hydration + protein + electrolytes in a form that doesn't sit heavy.

small bites, slow. 3-5 small bites every hour beats one full meal. the smaller the stomach load at any moment, the less nausea you'll feel.

what makes it worse

fried food. the GLP-1 mechanism slows gastric emptying. add the fat load of fried anything and the meal sits in your stomach for hours feeling awful.

cream and heavy sauces. same mechanism. butter sauces, cream-based pasta, queso. ordinarily fine, on a GLP-1 they're a setup for a bad afternoon.

sugar alcohols. erythritol, maltitol, xylitol. the "ozempic-friendly" packaged snacks marketed at GLP-1 patients are loaded with these. they cause GI distress in 30-50% of people. read the labels. we don't bake with any of them for this exact reason.

when to call your prescriber

if nausea lasts more than 48 hours after a dose, if you can't keep liquids down, or if you're losing more than 2 lbs per week without trying — that's not food, that's a dosing conversation.

for the food side: if you're in minneapolis and want a week of small, simple meals built specifically for this stage, that's literally what we built tandoco's GLP-1 page around. order through the store by thursday, pickup sunday. one drive, no cooking, no decisions on bad days.
